3 Work-Specific Ways You Can Reduce the Impact of COVID-19

August 27, 2020  |  NECS

By now, we all know the drill: wash your hands often, practice social distancing, wear a mask in public spaces, disinfect surfaces, and monitor any changes in your health. These are proven ways to protect yourself and others from exposure to COVID-19, but can you do more? Yes, especially at the office!

Here are 3 ways you can reduce the impact of COVID-19 at work.

1. Use Your Company Culture

The pandemic has brought a lot of uncertainty into our lives but a supportive company culture can ease concerns. This sounds simple, but it is actually the most difficult one to execute. Changing the attitudes and behaviours of a company and its employees will not happen overnight, but rather, over time and with conscious effort.

How do you show your support? Ask your team members what they need. It may be as simple as making files accessible so they can work from home a few days a week, or, disinfecting shared technology within the office. We all do our best work when we are comfortable in our environment.

2. Align Your Workspace(s)

You’ve adopted new policies and procedures to protect your customers and associates, but have you aligned your space? Consider creating safety posters to communicate updates, and when it comes to your day-to-day activities, think about ways you can cut down on high-traffic areas to reduce the impact on your business and internal teams.

You can also:

  • Increase separation between office furniture
  • Stagger meetings and appointments
  • Modify scheduling so there are fewer people on-site

3. Take Preventative Measures

Encourage those who have noticed any changes in their health or who have been exposed to the virus, to stay home. For those who are unaware of potential symptoms, you can rely on technology to help prevent a company-wide outbreak. The Personnel Management Kiosk, for example, uses temperature verification to ensure the health and safety of your office by scanning guests as they enter the building. This device can really help your team feel at ease during this difficult time.
